Verde Alpi Marble Slab

Verde Alpi is sold commercially as marble, though geologically it’s closer to serpentinite — a metamorphic rock rich in magnesium silicates that gives it the deep, almost jewel-toned green base, threaded through with bold black and white veining.

It suits kitchen benchtops, cladding, flooring and furniture, and works as a genuine statement piece — green stone at this saturation reads very differently to the grey-and-white marbles that dominate the range, and is worth building a space around rather than treating as a background material.

The trade convention of calling serpentinite-based stones ‘marble’ goes back a long way and isn’t unique to Verde Alpi — most commercially available ‘green marbles’ (Verde Guatemala, Rainforest Green and similar) are technically the same category of stone, valued for a colour and pattern true limestone-based marbles can’t produce.
