Grigio Portofino Marble Slab

Grigio Portofino takes its name from Portofino on the Ligurian coast, though — as with many marbles named after well-known places — it’s quarried more broadly across the region rather than at that exact site. It runs a grey and white ground with minimal secondary colour, a clean, restrained stone rather than a heavily veined one.

It suits kitchen benchtops, cladding, flooring and furniture, and works well where a simpler, more consistent grey is wanted over the higher-contrast veining of stones like Arabescato Corchia.

Marble takes a finish differently to granite or quartzite because it’s a comparatively soft carbonate rock — honing exposes a fine, even crystalline surface without the reflectivity of a full polish, which is part of why grey marbles like this one read so consistently across a slab.
